We’re Jess and Doug, a full-time travelling family of five and the creators behind Sandy Van Travels – a platform where we’ve been documenting our life on the road around Australia since 2024 through honest storytelling, photography and real family adventure.
We travel with our three children – Ellie and Arthur, our 6-year-old twins, and Harry (5). They are the heart of this journey and the reason we made the life-changing decision to sell our home and belongings in Brisbane and embrace full-time travel. We wanted more time together; more adventure and a childhood shaped by experiences rather than routines.
Sandy Van Travels is the space we created to share our journey – a digital scrapbook where our kids love looking back at the photos, videos and memories we’re making along the way. Alongside this, Light Collections is our Brisbane-based photography business, now operated from the road, specialising in wedding, event and commercial photography.
With the equipment, experience and genuine love for what we do, partnering with brands and creating while travelling has become a natural extension of our lifestyle – an organic step in our journey that simply makes sense, and one we feel incredibly grateful to pursue as a family.
Our journey with Wonderland RV didn’t begin in a showroom – it started around a campfire on New Year’s Eve 2024.
That night, we met Kevin and Ana, and as travellers do, conversations drifted effortlessly from road stories to vans, dreams and the journey behind Wonderland itself – even the story of how the brand got its name. It was one of those moments that lingered long after the fire went out, where we realised there was something special behind the brand beyond the product.
Wonderland isn’t just building caravans – they’re creating homes on wheels, backed by a passionate, family-run Australian team who genuinely care about the people travelling in them. That connection stayed with us.
When it came time to plan our second custom build, we explored several incredible manufacturers – including Kokoda and XTour – both brands we respect deeply. But time and again, Wonderland kept pulling us back.
It was the people, the craftsmanship, the openness to dream big with us and the feeling that they truly understood how we live on the road as a family of five.
After going all out on our first van (and learning a lot along the way), we knew exactly what mattered most this time around – and we’re not holding back. This next build is about refining, elevating and creating a van that supports our lifestyle even better.
Our focus is simple: build a van that works as beautifully as it looks.

We still have many years of travel ahead of us, working remotely, homeschooling our kids and continuing to explore Australia one coastline, outback track and hidden camp at a time. Having a van that supports that dream isn’t just important – it’s essential.
We’re so excited to share this journey from design to delivery and beyond, bringing our community along for every decision, milestone and adventure that follows.
